Maid Jaqueline Links Custodians & Home Ports

At 20 Tons this is one the larger boats in the Hillyard range yet she keeps the same design format of a centre cockpit, aft cabin, large saloon and further sleeping accommodation forward.  Built in 1946 at Littlehampton.
In addition to ongoing upgrading and refurbishment, the 'Maid Jacqueline"has had two general overhauls, 1988/89 in Istanbul and 2001/ 2003 in Marmaris. During the first general overhaul, in addition to to extensivewoodwork, the mast and boom, standing rigging, tanks, waterlines, electrics, chain plates and external fittings were also replacedand a hydralic steering control was fitted. She is now one of the best examples to be found and an extremely smart and well found yacht, complete with everything required on a cruising yacht to sail away and explore the Greek Islands where she is presently based. She is perfect for a solo or crewed Greek Island adventure and she is kept at a very inexpensive quiet safe marina on the Greek island of Samos. This makes a fantastic summer and winter base 5 minutes walk form the famous town of Pythagorio and in-view of Kusadasi Marina on the Turkish coast.
With all round visibility and comfortable seating, she has a superb wheel steered cockpit with brand new Bimmi sun shade and sail covers.  The tall modern Alloy mast and Bermudian rig is easily handled by a solo Captain or small crew and the addition of modern winches and roller furling head sails make life very easy at sea and she sails beautifully.  There are so many features on this boat which make her the ideal cruising yacht for the Greek Islands. Electric anchor winches forward and aft make stern or bow on moorings a breeze. Recent cruising grounds in 2017 / 2018 include Patmos, Lipsi, Arki, Agathonisi, Fourni, Samos and the Turkish coast.

David Hillyard established his reputation as a builder of pinnaces and other small wooden vessels for the Admiralty in the First World War. In the very early 1920's he commenced building sailing yachts at the yard in Littlehampton for private ownership.

In researching the origins of this boat the owner / Surveyor found that the spelling of her name had subtly changed from the French which includes an extra c, Maid Jacqueline. It's under this earlier name that she can be found in the Lloyd's Registers between 1948 and 1959. In 1960 Lloyd's report that she was “sold to the US”. The first owner brought the boat to Nice, where in 1965 it had a new Canadian owner.

Present owners wishing to improve house ashore so reluctantly up for sale and bargain offers around 19,000 sterling. Three month winter refit 2018 just completed at Karlovasi Boatyard, Samos.  Contact steventruss1@aol.com
